A Transcript Of Superintendent Merritt's Message To The P-CCS Community

Here is a transcript of Superintendent Merritt's message to the P-CCS community from Friday.

Good evening P-CCS Community, this is Superintendent of Schools, Monica Merritt. I hope this message finds you well. As we adjust to our new normal, we applaud each and every one of you for making the effort to support our students and each other so that learning can continue in P-CCS.

This morning, Governor Whitmer announced an extension of the ‘Stay Home, Stay Safe’ Executive Order through May 15. While there are some encouraging signs in our state, it is clear that our continued support of this order is the best way to keep our students, staff, and school community healthy and safe.

Each week, we are continuing to review and refine our remote learning practices so that we are better able to support the diverse needs of our students. We have heard from some families that too much information and communication can become overwhelming at times. We are working to streamline our communication so we keep you informed without unnecessary stress.

The essential instruction that is being delivered by teachers for the remainder of the year will be critical in preparing students for success in their next grade. Therefore, it is important that students participate to provide the foundation for future learning, and to prevent academic gaps. We remain committed to making sure that all students and families are given what they need in order to continue learning for the remainder of this school year. Please stay connected with your teacher or building principal to address your questions, concerns, or needs.

We are so proud of our educators and students as they adapt to this new style of remote teaching and learning. We particularly want to thank our parents and families, as you have adjusted your home routines to support your student’s development in this new space -- all while navigating the competing demands of your time. We know it has been challenging, but it will be worth it as we work together to best support the academic, social, and emotional needs of our students.

Our unbreakable school community remains P-CCS Strong. Keep your focus on taking care of yourselves, your families, and each other. Have a safe and healthy weekend!
