Video: Mitch Albom, Freudenberg-NOK Showcase Electric Vehicles at Plymouth Township Event

Radio host and columnist broadcasts show from Plymouth Township; Sealing technologies company highlights electric vehicles.

A familiar voice for Metro Detroiters greeted employees and customers of on Tuesday as Mitch Albom broadcast his radio show and talked electric vehicles from the company's North American headquarters in Plymouth Township.

Albom, a best-selling author, newspaper columnist and host of The Mitch Albom Show on WJR 760-AM, joined co-host Ken Brown on the air as Freudenberg-NOK and representatives from various automakers showcased new technologies and provided tours of 2011 and 2012 electric vehicles.

Freudenberg-NOK, a global company that provides sealing products to the automotive and aerospace industries, sponsors Albom's show.

A Chevy Volt and Nissan Leaf were among the electric cars on display, along with several hybrid vehicles and a solar-powered vehicle built by the University of Michigna's Solar Car Team.

The Volt is General Motors' first commercial all-electric vehicle. It has a gas-powered generator that recharges the car's battery, allowing extended range. The Leaf is fully electric with no gas-consuming mechanism.
