Yes, Labor Day was the hottest day of the year – almost.

Monday’s high temperature was 92 degrees at the Detroit Metro Airport, Deb Elliott, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service’s White Lake Township office, told the Detroit Free Press. Monday’s heat didn’t break a record for Sept. 7. In 1939, the mercury topped out at 97 degrees.

Monday tied with Aug. 2 for the hottest day of the year – so far anyway. Tuesday looks to be hot and humid as well, with a high near 87, according to the National Weather Service.

There’s a chance of showers and thunderstorms before 9 a.m., then another chance after 2 p.m. The precipitation chance is 30 percent, increasing to 40 percent in the overnight hours.

Here’s what’s in store for the rest of the week and a peek at the weekend forecast:

Wednesday: A 50 chance of showers; mostly cloudy, with a high near 78. Northwest wind 6 to 8 mph. Wednesday night: a 30 percent chance of showers before 2 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 66; north wind 6 to 10 mph becoming east northeast in the evening.

Thursday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 74. Thursday night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 58.

Friday: A chance of showers; mostly sunny, with a high near 72. Friday night: A chance of showers; mostly cloudy, with a low around 56.

Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 67. Saturday night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 55.

Sunday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 70. Sunday night: partly cloudy, with a low around 58.

Monday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 75.
