Whalers Host Saginaw in $5 Fridays Promotion
Sections 105-110 of Compuware Arena are offered for $5 during every Whalers Friday home game.

NEW MAN IN SAGINAW: In case you missed it, Todd Watson was dismissed as general manager and head coach of the Spirit on Dec. 10. Jim Paliafito takes over as general manager, with Greg Gilbert as new head coach. Assistant coaches John Kisil and George Daniel remain in their positions.
Gilbert, 49, played for two seasons with the Toronto Marlboros (now Guelph Storm) of the OHL from 1979-81 before playing 16 years in the NHL. He retired from playing in 1996, and has since coached in the NHL for the Calgary Flames; in the AHL with the Worcester IceCats and Toronto Marlies; and in the OHL with the Mississauga IceDogs.

In a story written earlier this month by Kyle Austin in the Saginaw News,Gilbert relishes the challenge of coaching in the Ontario Hockey League.
The Spirit have picked up the pace, going 7-3-0-0 over its last ten games with a two-game winning streak. The Whalers have lost just once in December, going 6-1-0-0.
Plymouth continues to receive contributions for everyone on the team. Alex Aleardi was recently interviewed on Plymouth Whalers Weekly and talks about his season, along with the Whalers overall depth.
SCOTT WEDGEWOOD IS HOT: Plymouth goaltender Scott Wedgewood pitched a 5-0 shutout on Wednesday for Canada over the Czech Republic in the 2012 World Junior Championships. Canada is 2-0 in the tournament.

WORLD UNDER-17 HOCKEY CHALLENGE STARTS: Plymouth left wing Mitchell Dempsey is playing for Team Ontario in the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge in Windsor, Ontario.
The event brings together the top players in the world born in 1995 or later. The under-17 program is the first step in Hockey Canada’s Program of Excellence. Many players who compete at the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge go on to represent Canada with the National Men’s Under-18 Team, National Junior Team and National Men’s Team.
