Woman Rescued After Spending 4 Hours in Submerged Jeep

Authorities pulled the unconscious 74-year-old woman and her vehicle out of the Au Sable River on Saturday in northern Michigan.

Rescuers saved a 74-year-old Ohio woman Saturday who was unconscious and trapped for four hours in an overturned vehicle in the Au Sable River in Oscoda County in northern Michigan, according to an MLive report.

Two fishermen saw the woman’s Jeep Cherokee submerged in about 2 feet of water near Parmalee Bridge at about 1:15 a.m., and they contacted authorities, the report stated. Rescue crews made it to the scene and pried open the Jeep’s doors, but they didn’t immediately see the woman, the report added.

It wasn’t until the Jeep was righted and pulled to dry land that authorities saw the woman’s foot in the back of the vehicle, covered in debris, the report stated. The woman was breathing and responsive, the report added.

The woman, who wasn’t identified but is a seasonal resident of Oscoda County, was eventually admitted to a Traverse City hospital and was in stable condition, the report stated. She has no memory of what happened, the report added.
