High School Softball: Lutheran Northwest Sweeps Double-Header Against Stoney Creek
The Crusaders win both games on a cold and windy afternoon against the Cougars.
The girls beat the in both games of a double header: 19-7 in the first game and 10-5 in the second game.
Although the conditions were cold and windy, the girls played hard and kept their heads in the games until the umpire called the second game after three innings because of darkness.
The MVP: Stephanie Smith pitched all seven innings in the first game for the Crusaders and got two hits and two RBI’s as well.

Smith remained focused on the mound while her team picked up runs and made plays for her every inning.
The Turning Point: The Crusaders had a five-run rally in the second inning of Game 1 to break the game open; they kept a comfortable lead for the rest of the first game.

In the second game, the Cougars were down 6-5 in the second inning but were unable to mount a comeback before the game was called for darkness.
The Quote: “We mentally blocked out the weather and stuck to our game plan: to throw strikes, get an early lead and keep building on it,” Lutheran Northwest Coach Jeff Ludwig said.
“Both teams had to play through the weather, we just gave them too many outs,” Stoney Creek Coach Jerry Price said.
“There were innings where we let them get four or five runs because of errors.”
What’s next? Lutheran Northwest (6-1) hosts Inner City Baptist for a doubleheader Saturday at 11 a.m.
Stoney Creek (2-2) plays a doubleheader at Farmington Hills Harrison on Wednesday and hosts Athens for a doubleheader at 4:15 p.m. Friday.
