Lake Orion man Arrested In Fatal Auburn Hills Crash: Police

A Lake Orion man was arrested in connection with a fatal Auburn Hills crash​​​ last Thursday, according to police.

AUBURN HILLS, MI — A Lake Orion man was arrested in connection with a fatal Auburn Hills crash last Thursday, according to police.

Officers arrested the 38-year-old man Friday afternoon after a "vigilant citizen" called police after they saw a man lying down in a wooden area roughly half a mile from the crash site, according to police.

The 38-year-old Lake Orion man was placed in the Oakland County Jail while charges were pending from the Oakland County Prosecutors Office, according to police.

His name was not immediately released.

Officers tried stopping a speeding red 2020 Kia Forte south on Lapeer Road between Dutton Road and Walton Boulevard at 7 p.m. Thursday, according to police.

The Kia Forte sped away from officers, who terminated the chase near Zelma Drive (about a half mile) after the Kia reached 88 miles per hour, according to police.

The Kia Forte then smashed into a 2002 tan Ford F-150 at the intersection of Walton Boulevard and Perry Street, according to police.

A 68-year-old man was extricated from the pickup truck and taken to a nearby hospital where he died, according to police.

A woman, who was a passenger in the Kia Forte, was also injured in the crash and taken to a nearby hospital with critical injuries, but was listed in stable condition, according to police.

The driver of the Kia Forte ran away from the crash scene after the incident, according to police.

The driver of the Kia, a 38-year-old Lake Orion man, was later arrested in connection with the crash, according to police.
