Officials celebrate new Paint Creek Trail bridge (candgnews.com) — A new, wider bridge on the Paint Creek Trail in Rochester has replaced a deteriorating century‑old railroad trestle, improving safety, accessibility, and emergency vehicle access near Dinosaur Hill Nature Preserve. Funded by state, regional, county, and city grants, the single‑span steel structure also protects fish habitat by eliminating in‑stream supports and includes ADA‑accessible features and native plantings.
   

2. Rochester Forms Health & Wellness Committee to Build a Healthier, More Connected Community (rochestermedia.com) — Rochester has created a new Health and Wellness Committee to coordinate efforts that support residents' physical, mental, and social well-being. Approved by City Council, the group will set annual priorities, track community health measures, and is currently accepting resident applications through the city website for those who want to help shape its work.

Food scraps recycling program sprouts in Rochester (candgnews.com) — Rochester has launched a free food-scraps drop-off program at the Department of Public Works, giving residents a simple way to turn kitchen waste into compost instead of landfill trash. Partnering with My Green Michigan, the city will run this three‑month pilot with 24/7 access to three green bins and may expand it if participation is strong.

Make spirits bright: The Rainbow Connection needs donors to 'adopt' Wish Families this holiday season (wxyz.com) — A Rochester-based nonprofit, The Rainbow Connection, is urgently seeking local donors to "adopt" Wish Families of Michigan children facing life-threatening illnesses for the holidays, with sign-ups open until Oct. 15. Residents can shop from a list, use Amazon delivery, or donate money, helping relieve financial stress and bringing some much-needed joy to more than a thousand family members statewide.
   

5. Dakota wins first golf regional title; Romeo, Eisenhower also qualify (theoaklandpress.com) — Rochester Stoney Creek's girls golf team narrowly missed qualifying for the Division 1 state finals at Twin Lakes, finishing just three strokes shy of the cut in a tight regional field. Macomb Dakota captured its first-ever regional title, while Romeo and Utica Eisenhower advanced, and several Oakland County golfers, including Stoney Creek players, posted strong individual scores.
