If you're a parent in Rochester, chances are you have a blue and white reversible jersey either packed away in a bin from days long ago — or tucked inside your laundry because of a game this weekend.
It's almost a rite of passage in this town that children will play soccer (and wear the requisite jersey) through the Rochester Youth Soccer League, an organization that invites children to learn about the game from almost the time they learn to walk.
"Any of these sports that are getting these kids together, I think it's all great," said Jay Vanderest, a parent and volunteer coach for the league. "I really want to compliment the RYSL, because they are really stressing sportsmanship and playing fair and wanting the parents to be positive role models on the sidelines as well."
