Rochester Hills Public Library received a $6,000 donation from The Meadowbrook Woman’s Club, a local organization of 150 active members. The money was raised through an annual fundraiser to benefit local non-profit groups. “I was thrilled to hear that the fundraising committee had selected the library as this year’s beneficiary,” said Rochester Hills Public Library Director Christine Lind Hage.
“The money will be used to purchase books for the library’s adult book and DVD collections. We are ordering copies of all the movies nominated for Academy Awards this year”. The fundraising committee consisted of Janet Payne, Diane Donahue, Sandra Hechlik, Lisa Palazzolo and Pat Gerwert.
“The fundraiser was held this past October and had a tailgating theme,” said Janet Payne, the committee’s chair. The event consisted of games, foods appropriate for tailgating and live entertainment by the Stoney Creek High School’s Drum Line. “Each year we select a non-profit organization that has contributed to the quality of life in our community, and this year we selected the library,” said Payne.

The committee that plans the events gets to select the beneficiary and this year’s committee members were unanimous in their choice of the library. One member is an active user of the library’s bookmobile. Another member frequently attends Sunday concerts and programs at the library.
A third member’s book discussion group heavily uses the library’s book discussion kits. Payne noted it was an easy decision because all of the committee members were active library users.
