12 Mile Speed Limit Increase to be Decided Next Month
Road commission considering city's objection to raising limit from 30 to 35 and 40.

(Originally posted on Dec. 23, 2016) ROYAL OAK, MI — City officials in Royal Oak are opposing a decision by the Road Commission for Oakland County to increase speed limits on 12 Mile Road from the current 35 miles an hour to 40 miles an hour on a 2.5 mile stretch of the road, The Daily Tribune reported.
Craig Bryson, a spokesman for the road commission, said a decision expected next month "will be based on our engineering studies and Royal Oak’s input."
"The majority of people on 12 Mile are already driving 35 mph and 40 mph," he said.

The increased speed limit is proposed for the section of thee road from Woodward Avenue to Campbell Road.
“In my years (on the City Commission) I’ve never heard complaints that the speed limit be increased,” said Mayor Michael Fournier.
