Royal Oak police are searching for a suspect accused of pumping several bullets into a 28-year-old Madison Heights man who died Monday morning in the city’s second homicide of the year, occurring exactly two weeks after its first.

An update is planned later Monday afternoon. It’s unclear how the suspect arrived at Beaumont Royal Oak Hospital around 1:30 a.m Monday. He died later.

Residents in the normally quiet neighborhood awoke to heavy police presence, including an armored SWAT vehicle, after hospital personnel notified authorities of the shooting.

Although residents were initially told to stay in their homes, Clemens told The Detroit News residents of the neighborhood can go about their business.

““I apologize for being vague,” Clemens said “Currently, the neighborhood is safe. We don’t believe anybody else is in jeopardy.”

The city’s first homicide of the year occurred on Oct. 12 when Theresa Diamos, 50, was allegedly shot by her boyfriend, David Douglas Davis, 49, who faces open murder and other felony charges.

The lockdown in the neighborhood was expected to be lifted, according to The Daily Tribune report. Most of the officers had left the area by about 7:45 a.m.

A neighbor, Brad Foucher, told The Daily Tribune the house where the shooting is believed to have taken place is “kind of an interesting house — sort of a fun house with a lot of people coming and going all the time.”
