Theology of the Body scholar and educator Christopher West will bring his powerful theology of the body presentation, “Fill These Hearts: Desire, Design, Destiny,” to the National Shrine of the Little Flower from 7-9 p.m. on March 26 in Royal Oak.
“Fill These Hearts” is an evening of beauty and reflection through John Paul II’s Theology of the Body – a bold, organic and contemporary understanding of human love in the divine plan. The evening is a journey through art, music and spoken presentation, coming to know the “why” behind the “what” of the Catholic understanding of sexuality and how it illuminates life’s deepest questions.
West, who will be joined by indie folk rock musician Mike Mangione, brings this presentation to Royal Oak on the heels of his two most recent books: Fill These Hearts: God, Sex and the Universal Longing and At the Heart of the Gospel: Reclaiming the Body for the New Evangelization (both on Random House’s Image Books imprint).
The “Theology of the Body” is the name given to a collection of talks given by Pope John Paul II during the first five years of his pontificate expounding on what West describes as the Catholic Church’s “redeeming vision of human sexuality.” The Cor Project sets the stage for a new direction for West’s ministry, focusing on the “new evangelization” by reaching hearts with what Pope Francis calls “the way of beauty.”
