Short commute times, low crime rates, incomes averaging around $62,000 and other factors make Royal Oak the fourth-best place to live in Michigan, according to Credit Donkey.

Before long, Royal Oak may need to compile a list of all the Top 10 lists that have cited the city as a great place to live.

The latest mention is from Credit Donkey, which says Royal Oak is the fourth-best place to live in Michigan based on five factors:

  • The odds of being a victim of violent crime (one in 801)
  • Commute time (22.5 minutes)
  • Income ($62,453)
  • Residents who attended some college but did not earn a degree (19.6 percent)
  • Residents with a bachelor’s degree or higher (49.25 percent)
  • Restaurants per capita (one per 429 residents.

“Part of the Detroit metro area, Royal Oak is one of the smaller towns on our list but it still offers many of the amenities you'd find in a larger city,” Credit Donkey said. “ Crime rates here are low and commute times are short, with incomes averaging just over $62,000. The downtown area is a popular spot where residents and visitors alike can sample the city's dining, shopping and entertainment scene.”
