Sen. McMorrow Secures $50,000 For Veteran's Memorial Project

ROYAL OAK, MI — Senator Mallory McMorrow (D-Royal Oak) said Wednesday she has secured over a $1 million in additional funding in Michigan's 2022 budget for specific projects throughout the 13th Senate district, including $50,000 for the Royal Oak veterans’ memorial project.

"This funding on a project ten years in the making brings us one step closer to this world-class
memorial honoring the sacrifice and contributions of our WWII veterans, allowing visitors to reflect on the impact their service and sacrifice has had on our community, state and country," McMorrow said in a news release.

The Michigan WWII Legacy Memorial focuses to inspire all generations of people by honoring Michigan's legacy of ingenuity, sacrifice and commitment on the warfront and home. It is currently working to build a permanent memorial to tell Michigan's unique story. It would also become a resource for educational programs, events, veteran outreach and resources.

The memorial was unveiled on June 17, 1946 by the City of Royal Oak in an area known as City Hall Park at the northeast corner of Troy and Williams. It also features the names of 102 men who died in World War II.
