When officers arrived at the victim's house, Andujar-Ruiz took the victim and drove away as the other three suspects ran away from the home, police said. Police were still looking for those suspects.

Officers then spotted Andujar-Ruiz driving the victim's vehicle on Dearing Drive near 15 Mile and Dodge Park roads in Sterling Heights and tried stopping it, but Andujar-Ruiz sped off, prompting a chase, police said.

Officers chased Andujar-Ruiz for roughly a mile through a Sterling Heights neighborhood before he crashed in the area of 15 Mile and Maple Lane, police said.
