2013 UCS grad representing US in World Goalball Tournament

A recent Eisenhower High School graduate is helping to represent the United States in an international goalball tournament.

Class of 2013 member Alex Williams will compete this month at the World Youth Goalball Championships in Colorado after his Michigan team won the national title.

Williams and four other team members won the National championship as part of the Michigan Omega, a statewide goalball team.

Goalball is a team sport designed specifically for blind athletes.

Participants try to throw a ball that has bells embedded in it into the opponents' goal. Teams alternate throwing or rolling the ball from one end of the playing area to the other, and players remain in the area of their own goal in both defense and attack. Players must use the sound of the bell to judge the position and movement of the ball.

The International Blind Sports Federation (IBSF) World Youth Championships will be held through July 15 in Colorado Springs, Co.
