Shelby Township announces business growth, economic development affiliation

Shelby Township Supervisor Rick Stathakis and Planning Director Glenn Wynn announced the intentions of JVIS-USA to build a new facility in Cherry Creek Corporate Park Aug. 22.

JVIS-USA provides expert design/development and tooling of automotive components, including chrome and press metal.

“By working with local entrepreneurs like Gene D’Agostini, who has developed an amazing corporate product at Cherry Creek Corporate Park, Shelby Township has placed itself on the global scene when it comes to attracting successful industrial firms,” Stathakis said. “The forward-thinking approach of a majority of our conservative Board of Trustees and the tireless efforts of Planning Director Glenn Wynn has fostered an environment where businesses are comfortable investing and expanding here.”

The inclusion of JVIS-USA, which will occupy a 100,000-square-foot facility and provide 75 new jobs, at Cherry Creek Corporate Park is contingent upon approval of an industrial tax abatement at the Sept. 3 Board meeting.

“Cherry Creek Corporate Park, which is conveniently located on Shelby Parkway between 23 Mile and 24 Mile roads, just east of the M-53 Expressway, is successful because of its location and amazing access to the regional marketplace,” Wynn said. “But it would not be the product that it is without the work and investment Mr. D’Agostini has put in place to make the most of that location.”

“You’ve got a great community that has a good living environment, great schools and excellent police and fire,” D’Agostini added of what makes Shelby Township a good fit for business. “And most importantly, there is a community government that is proactive in promoting development.”

Cherry Creek Corporate Park’s assets led that property to be used to kick off Macomb County’s newest economic development tool, “Macomb County Prime Properties.”

County Executive Mark Hackel and the county’s economic development team announced the Prime Properties launch on Hwww.macombbusiness.comH with Stathakis, Wynn and D’Agostini Aug. 21. Hackel said it was the work of D’Agostini and Shelby Township officials that made Cherry Creek Corporate Park the portal’s, “pilot.”

“Prime Properties is about the power of one,” Stathakis said of Prime Properties, which highlights the county’s most attractive industrial assets. “By utilizing the resources of the county in terms of its GIS mapping to promote the products we have in Shelby Township, we can compete with anyone in the world.”

Cherry Creek Corporate Park, which has existing utility service, connection to the regional transportation network and an established relationship between the owner and the local community, was tabbed to kick off the Web portal as it fulfilled all of the requirements for properties that the county is hoping to promote across the region, country and globe.

“This is another great example of how Macomb County is bringing government and private business together to create a better economic environment for all of us,” Hackel said.
