Two Utica Community Schools special education educators have been honored for making a difference in the lives of students.
Lynn Fonacier has been named the 2013 School Social Worker of the Year for Macomb County and Early Childhood Special Education Teacher Buffy Gerschick is the recipient of this year’s “Make a Difference” Award.
Fonacier is currently assigned to Stevenson High School and Browning Elementary where she is highly regarded by administrators, peers, parents and students.
"Lynn has a warm and compassionate heart and she wants what is best for each individual student," said Kelly Bowler, a UCS speech and language therapist. "Her strong communication skills and team player attitude contribute to maintaining a positive school atmosphere."
Gerschick, an Early Childhood Special Education teacher at Beacon Tree, was honored by the Macomb Intermediate School District with the “Make a Difference” Award.
Gerschick was nominated for the award by parents Joe and Erin Youngblood and Chrissy Sengstock.
"Mrs. Gerschick was born to be a special education teacher and she has made her profession proud," the Youngbloods wrote in the nomination.
