UCS senior named to international leadership board

Utica Academy for International Studies senior Michelle Petersen has been named to the student leadership board of Key Club International.

Petersen was elected a trustee of the club's 11-member International Board for the next school year.

Key Club International is the oldest and largest service program for high school students and is established through local Kiwanis International clubs.

The organization focuses on creating leadership skills through service.

Petersen said Key Club has taught her that "service is a mindset, not a log of hours. Your only concern should be how to best serve the most people."

Petersen was elected to the International Board by the student-led House of Delegates at the 70th Annual Key Club International Convention.

Her election is the next step in a list of leadership positions Petersen has held with the student-run service club.

She has served as the Key Club president at UAIS and, most recently, as the Lieutenant Governor for Michigan.

As Key Club Lieutenant Governor, Petersen led four service projects, completed more than 100 hours of community service and raised funds for Kids Against Hunger. She also promoted club communications by producing informational videos, writing and publishing state-wide newsletters and hosting four divisional meetings.
