UCS senior one of 50 statewide to be named semifinalist in National Achievement Program

A Stevenson and Utica Center for Mathematics, Science and Technology senior is one of only 50 Michigan students to have been named a merit semifinalist in the 50th annual National Achievement Program.

Tabu Gantt is among 1,600 Black American U.S. seniors who will compete for approximately 800 achievement awards worth $2.5 million.

The National Achievement Scholarship Program, conducted by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation, is a privately financed academic competition. 
It was initiated in 1964 to recognize academically promising black students throughout the nation and to provide scholarships to a substantial number of the most outstanding program participants. 

More than 160,000 high school juniors from all parts of the United States requested consideration in the 2014 National Achievement Scholarship Program when they took the 2012 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®). 

All Achievement Scholar® awardees will be selected from the Finalist group on the basis of their abilities, accomplishments, and potential for success in rigorous college studies.
