• 25 years after disbandment, South Haven lifeguards are back and getting ready for day one (wwmt.com) — South Haven’s long-awaited lifeguard program is officially returning to city beaches this Memorial Day after a 25-year hiatus, with a new chief lifeguard and 12-day training camp underway. City leaders, safety advocates, and grieving families say the move honors past drowning victims and could make South Haven a statewide model for Lake Michigan beach safety. 
• South Haven Police Chief reminds residents, visitors of fireworks rules (wsjm.com) — If you plan to use fireworks in South Haven, local police want you to know they’re only allowed on specific holiday dates, during set hours, and only from private property—not parks, beaches, roads, or vacation rentals. Chief Adam DeBoer says officers usually start with a warning but repeat violations can bring fines, and he urges everyone to handle fireworks safely this summer.
• Michigan mom, daughter graduate from same university together on Mother's Day weekend (mlive.com) — Two South Haven natives, mother Sheena Northern-Espinoza and daughter Alóndra Northern, just celebrated a rare milestone by graduating from Central Michigan University on the same Mother’s Day weekend. Sheena earned her master’s in human resource administration, while Alóndra completed a psychology bachelor’s, capping years of shared late-night homework calls and mutual encouragement.
