Pricey Ballistic Vests for K9 Officers a Memorial to Cop Dad

As a memorial to their later police officer father, sisters Sharon Peters and Patricia Settimo fund ballistics vests for K9 officers.

ROSEVILLE, MI – Two sisters have come up with a way to honor their late father, a retired detective and lieutenant, and keep the Roseville Police Department’s two canine officers, Corporal and Chase, safe during dangerous missions.

Sharon Peters and Patricia Settimo have teamed with the national nonprofit Vested Interest in K9s, to outfit the two Belgian Malinois shepherds with ballistic vests that protect them from gunshot wounds and knife attacks, The Detroit News reports.

The women's father, Richard Scott, served the Roseville Police Department for 35 years.

Peters has donated vests for seven Michigan police dogs since 2014. They typically cost about $2,300, but Peters purchased them through Vested Interest in K9s at a discount.

Peters, of Grosse Pointe Shores, told The Detroit News police dogs are important team members in dangerous situations and need protection.
