State Sen. Steve Bieda, D-Warren, led Michiganβs Electoral College delegates in the Pledge of Allegiance Monday during a ceremony in the State Senate chambers to cast Michiganβs 16 electoral votes to President Barack Obama.
βI was deeply honored to participate in Michiganβs Electoral College vote.Β As a history buff, my participation in this constitutionally mandated event was an honor that I will always remember,β said Sen. Bieda, in a release. βThe re-election of President Obama is an historic event, and I was humbled to play a role in todayβs ceremonies. Michigan directly benefited from President Obamaβs efforts to revitalize Americaβs auto industry. Weβve seen the big three hire more workers and make further investments in our state. Iβm excited to see that growth continue during his second term.β
Senate Democratic Leader Gretchen Whitmer chaired the proceedings, and Bieda served as the assistant chair.
