Savor Spring with home cook Laura Kurella (fox17online.com) — Sturgis residents can enjoy a free ā€œSavor Springā€ cooking event this Sunday at the Sturges Young Auditorium, featuring award-winning home cook Laura Kurella. From noon to 4 p.m., families can watch a live cooking show, enter prize drawings, and enjoy food trucks, music, kids’ activities, and free floral arrangements from The Home Depot.

Michigan Sports Writers Division 1 all-state girls basketball teams (sturgisjournal.com) — Sturgis basketball fans can celebrate as Kinder Smith earns a spot on the Michigan Sports Writers Division 1 all-state list, highlighting local talent on a statewide stage. The honors are headlined by Howell star Lilly Williams as Player of the Year and Muskegon’s Bernard Loudermill as Coach of the Year, with standout athletes recognized from across Michigan.

3. Carra invites residents to local office hours (gophouse.org) — State Rep. Steve Carra is holding in-person office hours Friday that are open to residents of his district, which includes Sturgis and all of St. Joseph County. Sessions will be in Three Rivers and Edwardsburg, and no appointment is needed. Sturgis residents can also call or email his Lansing office if they can’t attend.

Donna Sears, 68 – WLKM Radio 95.9 FM (wlkm.com) — Sturgis residents are mourning the passing of 68-year-old Donna Marie Sears, a devoted reader and longtime presence at the local Lowry’s Book Store. Born in North Dakota and later settling in Sturgis, she is remembered by her husband Kerry, children including a daughter in Sturgis, and a grandson in Sturgis. A memorial service in Sturgis will be announced later by Hackman Family Funeral Homes.
