Back by Popular Demand: Cast of ‘Pinkalicious’ Returns for Seconds

The overwhelming success of "Pinkalicious: The Musical" spurred the Downriver Youth Performing Arts Center to add additional dates for its youth-oriented production.

Thanks to the overwhelming popularity of the first run of “Pinkalicious: The Musical” at the Trenton Village Theater, three more public shows have been announced to handle the increased demand.

Beginning Friday, March 11 at 7 p.m., the Downriver Youth Performing Arts Center will bring back the entire cast from the first run to entertain children and adults with their musical adaptation of the best-selling series of children’s books.

“The authors of these books came out with a new book in February,” said Mary Zaleski, the show's director. “A lot of the local schools are reading the book in class right now, which likely helped to build up the popularity of the show.”

Even though the DYPAC alumni who make up the show's cast have lives outside of the theater, all of them were able to return for this encore performance.

“Trying to work in and around the theater schedule was tough,” added Zaleski.  “But I think it was fate that allowed everybody to come back for these additional shows.”

This is the first time DYPAC has created a show specifically geared toward local schoolchildren. It came from schoolteachers wanting a way to expose their students to the arts without having to endure the cost of traveling downtown.

“Never before has DYPAC put on shows just for schools,” said Zaleski. “But teachers have sent us positive e-mail after their experience at the theater urging us to do this every year.”

The other community shows will run Saturday, March 12 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, March 13 at 2 p.m.  Reserved-seating tickets are $7 and are available in advance, in person or on www.dypac.com/tickets.

Tickets for the school performances on March 11 and 25 still remain. For more information, please call 734-671-2202.
