Plans to transform the in the Shops at Old Orchard strip mall from an upscale sports bar into a steakhouse took a step forward Tuesday night, as the Township Planning Commission unanimously voted to approve an expansion of the outdoor seating area there.
One of the restaurant's owners, Samer Sinawi, told the planning commission that the restaurant would change its name to Prime 29 and is scheduled to open in the middle of May. The approved plan expands the outdoor seating area by almost 50 percent, from roughly 900 square feet to more than 1,300 square feet. The existing canopy will als grow to accomodate the new space and a gas fireplace will be installed, Sinawi said.
Although the plans for expansion will result in the removal of two parking spaces, the number of barrier-free parking spaces will remain the same. Finally, an awning will be placed over the entrance to Prime 29.
