Come As You Are (CAYA). Just the name of this place makes you want to try it out. I found out about CAYA Smokehouse Grill through friends who just happen to stumble upon it. It is located in a building that has attempted to house a successful restaurant for years; I think CAYA might just be the one that succeeds.
Since I first heard of them, I’ve read articles in the Detroit Free Press and Metro Times (to name a couple) and tried it myself. I always judge a BBQ place by their mac & cheese and cornbread and both were without a doubt up to my standards. Now I can recommend CAYA to others without any reservations.

The cost is pretty typical when compared to other BBQ joints. Our side selections ranged from $3 for coleslaw or cornbread and $5 for the 3 cheddars mac and cheese. We started with a side of poutine tots, let me just say OMG, which was $5 as well. For dinner, I got a simple green salad with herb buttermilk dressing for $5, the guys got Pulled Pork sandwiches ($8) and a build your own burger ($9). The meals come ala carte and you can order sides to share. They have Happy Hour 4:30-6:30pm Tuesday through Friday ($1 off beer, $5 cocktail of the day, $5 select wines). They also offer catering. High ceilings, neutral and trendy décor with a modern feel is how I would describe CAYA. They have a long bar with a few high top tables separated by a wall to the dining room which has a very open layout. The outdoor patio was not open because it was a cold February evening; however it looks like a place I would want to sit when it warms up. You could visit CAYA for anything and with anyone; date night, group dinner, happy hour, brunch, or a family dinner. Enjoy and mack sure to get the mac & cheese and cornbread, you won’t regret it!
