The timing, the location, the vibe, the friendliness of the staff (he did come in with a box of fresh donuts from Dutch Girl Donuts and offered us one), the reinvention of that area, and of course the menu, this place is sure to be exactly what Christian, the barista, said he’d like to see it become “a thriving neighborhood coffee shop”. I for one will be sure to drop in there to enjoy some Great Lakes Coffee after a long night at their neighbor, and one of my favorite places, Café D’Mongos.
200 Grand River Avenue Detroit, MI 48226. Corner of Griswold & Grand River. Really hard to miss as it is a beautiful, orange two story building with windows from the floor to the ceiling. Neighbor to Moosejaw and Café D’Mongos Speakeasy.
You can get any choice of beverage for under $5. Not to mention they are proudly serving local & Michigan made brands. So skip Starbucks next time and support small local businesses.

The building is cozy and really cool both inside and out. The staff is extremely friendly. There’s local artists featured on the walls upstairs where you can sit and look out into the city while enjoying your 313 combo (small drip coffee & Dutch Girl Donut) for $3.00. So needless to say, the vibe here rocks. You can stop in and grab your morning cup of Joe & some food on your way to work or you can meet a friend and sit here for hours. This place provides the environment for either a quickie or an extended stay. If you like them on Facebook, you can stay informed with what’s going on including events, open turntables, or just daily specials.
