Celebrating Memorial Day was Truly Special for Au Pairs from Au Pair in America

A day at Greenfield Village is always a wonderful experience but it was especially rewarding for au pairs from Au Pair in America.  They were able to attend with their group leader, Carol Benton, on Sunday May 26,  during Civil Remembrance Weekend.

The special exhibits and presentaions for the holiday were very interesting but in the opinion of Anna-Lena (Leni) Pachner, an au pair from Germany,  EVERYTHING was interesting and impressive.   She felt like she was transported back in history and when she went into the Town Hall she tried to imagine what it would be like to be part of life in that era.   Leni said "I loved to be able to see how Thomas Edison, for example, invented all those incredible things right there in that lab"  and it was so interesting to see "all those people who were dressed up trying to represent the way of living in the former times which made everything even more real."

Au pairs are young ladies who come to the United States on a J-1 visa,  live with their host family for a year (or two) and provide up to 45 hours of  child care.  They come to experience a cultural exchange and to broaden their horizons.   They often form a close relationship with their host family that may last for a lifetime.   If you would like more information about hosting an au pair with Au pair in America, please contact Carol Benton, 248-489-1407 or cbaupair@aol.com
