Bears Celebrate Regional Title; Wrestlers Fare Well at Finals
Roosevelt has had dynamic and successful week in sports, with a regional title in hockey and lots of wins in wrestling.
It’s a crazy-busy stretch here for the Pick of the Week staff, with all kinds of playoffs under way and a slew of seasons coming to an end.
That said, it’s also a very exciting time for prep sports fans.
With that in mind, let’s take our weekly look back at the week that was, and check out the week that lies ahead.

- It wouldn’t be right if we didn’t lead with the boys hockey squad. The Bears captured a regional title with a , but the win of the week came against Trenton High Feb. 28. A 3-2 overtime thriller pushed Roosevelt past the Trojans.
- Kudos to the girls hoops squad from Roosevelt who advanced all the way to the district finals before falling to a tough .
- Way to go Cade Barwig Jr., Evan Guffey and Joe Lombard. Each grappler did the community proud with solid performances. Guffey wound up finishing fifth in the state at the 125 pound weight class. Lombard finished the event in fourth place overall at the 130 pound weight class.
Looking Ahead
- Naturally, the hockey team keeps its state title drive alive with a showdown Tuesday against Pickney High in the quarterfinals at Arctic Arena in Chelsea.
- The boys basketball team tips off the postseason at 5:30 p.m. Monday against host Gibraltar Carlson. The Bears will be playing for a ticket to the Wednesday semifinals against Taylor Kennedy.
