“We have a deep team with some experienced senior bowlers,” he said. “I think we have a good chance being one of the top eight teams for sure. It’s a long day, and to survive, we’ll need to make our spares.”

Three Bears also qualified for individuals and will return to compete in the tournament on Saturday.

Nolan Gage

The senior bowls in the anchor spot for the Bears and sports a 205 average. He has been this year and has been an extremely consistent bowler. He finished second in the league with 16 points won. Look for him to be a contender for the top spot.

Austin Irwin

The junior placed first in the league with 17 points won in 22 games. He polished off the season with a 195 average. Irwin is definitely peaking, as he had a roaring finish by upping his average 10-12 pins in the last two weeks.

Bryan Ivancek

In his first year of varsity as a senior, Ivancek worked his way into the starting lineup and finished the season with a 203 average. And for the record, Ivancek is a confident young man.

“Bryan told me in September that we were going to qualify for states as a team–and that he would qualify as an individual,” Diroff said. “And it happened.”

Diroff’s boys are excited and ready for the big challenge.

“We’ve been talking about it all week,” Diroff said. “The boys are not only excited to make states, they want to win it. They all have great attitudes and I’m so happy for them. And I am fortunate to have such a nice group of kids.”
