Business Owners Band Together to Raise Money for Wyandotte Vietnam Veterans Memorial

Volunteers will serve as guest waitstaff from 6 to 10 p.m. Wednesday at Sports Brew Pub.

They're not promising great service, but the volunteers who will be working at on Wednesday are pledging a good time will be had by all who stop by.

Several Wyandotte business owners are joining forces for a Pay It Forward fundraiser to benefit .

They'll be serving as greeters, hosts, waitresses and bartenders from 6 to 10 p.m., with all tips and 10 percent of sales going toward the veterans memorial.

“We have a strong business community in Wyandotte," said Janelle Rose of . "When a good cause comes along, you only have to ask.”

She and her husband, Peter of , are organizing the event, along with Patt Slack of and Tom and Dianne Woodruff of .

“We guarantee good food, brew and fun, (but) not so much the service, but still encourage people to come on down and have a drink and meal and see some of their favorite business owners and other volunteers while donating to a great cause,” Tom Woodruff said.

Volunteers have pledged to raise upwards of $25,000 to construct a monument to honor the 10 Wyandotte soldiers who died while serving in Vietnam. will be constructed of black granite and will sit at the east end of Superior at Van Alstyne.

The center will contain a map of Vietnam, with the names of the 10 soldiers engraved on the right side. A pair of benches will be built on both sides of the monument.

This is the third Pay It Forward event in recent months in Wyandotte. The first one benefited The second raised money for .
