Store representatives saw the need for the launch as the city’s current launch at BASF Park is not handicap accessible, Pischke said.

Riverside Kayak Connection received a grant to help with construction costs, but it wasn't enough to fund the full project, Pischke said. That's when the city agreed to fund the remainder of the project, he said.
Representatives from Riverside Kayak Connection could not be reached for comment. They posted an announcement online, however, inviting the public to attend the ribbon cutting ceremony.
"This launch is designed to allow for access for all to enjoy kayaking," it says. "This launch is another wonderful amenity being added to the Detroit River Heritage Water Trail. A special thanks to the Community Foundation of Southeastern Michigan for their support. We hope to see you there! All welcome, bring a friend!!"
