“Everything is homemade–from the toppings to the crust,” owner Lori Roman said.

Word of Divine’s opening spread quickly after a popular Wyandotte confectionery––closed its doors in late October. At the time, it was the only business in the city that specialized in cheesecake.
Roman said she isn’t out to be compared to Cheesecake Magic, but instead plans to bring her own style and flavors.

“There’s not a lot of cheesecake out there anywhere in this area,” she said. “I thought it would be a good thing to offer.”
In addition to cheesecake, Divine also carries pies, muffins, mini breads and dessert bars. Sugar-free options also are available.
Roman said she started looking for a building at the end of October, discovered this one in Wyandotte right away and immediately began remodeling the place. It formerly housed Bona Pizza, so a lot of the appliances and other restaurant furnishings were already in place.
“I had to buy some things, but it came furnished for the most part, which was nice,” Roman said. “I like the downtown area here. I grew up in Wyandotte, so it’s nice to be back.”
Her shop is only a couple doors down from another dessert haven–. That business opened in early September, but Roman said she doesn’t consider the closeness to be competition.
“I don’t offer cakes and they don’t offer cheesecakes,” Roman said. “It worked out great.”
In an online poll she took before opening, Roman said, her customers selected strawberry as their favorite cheesecake flavor. She said she’s anxious to see what it turns out to be as customers get familiar with all of her offerings, including chocolate covered banana, Oreo heaven, peanut butter cup, eggnog and banana split.
