Did You Get Your Test Message of Wyandotte's Emergency Notification System?

If not, there's still time to sign up to be notified by phone, text or email in case of a real emergency.

Did you get your test message at about noon Thursday from Wyandotte's FirstCall Phone Alert system?

If so, then you're properly signed up. If not, there's still time to get enrolled.

The alert system is free and will notify you of any emergency situation affecting Wyandotte.

"When the community needs to be advised of a situation, the system is activated and citizens within the impacted area will receive an automated telephone call within minutes notifying them of the event and what precautions are recommended," the city's website says. "The message will be left on an answering machine, or three attempts will be made to reach you. Once the situation has resolved, residents will receive an ‘all clear’ message."

If you live in Wyandotte and have a landline phone number that's listed, it has automatically been enrolled into the program. Unlisted landlines and cell phone numbers also can be added for phone calls or texts. Email addresses also can be added to receive electronic messages. Nonresidents can sign up for alerts, as well.

Thursday's message was the first systemwide test that's been sent out since the program was implemented.
