Hockey Playoffs: Wyandotte Vs. Trenton in the First Round Tonight

On Jan. 20, the Wyandotte Bears and the Trenton Trojans played one another in a game of hockey that lived up to the billing and then some.  The game featured numerous shots, one minor penalty and an ending that occurred on a goal from a deflection with one minute left in overtime. 

Wyandotte’s defense and goaltending are good, but they are primarily known for their offense. The Bears have scored more than 100 goals this season. The Trojans, on the other hand, are good on offense, but are primarily known for their defense and goaltending.  

The first game between the two was full of defense, . It is easy to assume that both teams have played better since their first meeting. Tonight, these two teams will square off in the first round of the playoffs. For the way these two teams have played this year, one team will win and advance in the state playoffs, the other’s season will be over. For the level of talent that both teams have, this feels like the game is for the state title, not to advance.  

This game should not be labeled “Game of the Year” or "Game of the Year: Part 2” because the game in January had a special feeling that was associated with it.

Tonight’s game (8:15 p.m. at Southgate Civic Center) is simply ending one season for one team, and the other team comes that much closer to capturing a state title. This game will come down to who wants it more.
