Former Bears Hockey Standout Now Leads USHL Team in Scoring
Gerald Mayhew of the Cedar Rapids (Iowa) RoughRiders is a 'gritty, rugged kid.'
Gerald Mayhew, the 2011 award winner and one of the standout players on the state championship team, is proving why he was recruited to play in the United States Hockey League this season.
The 18-year-old, who signed with , scored four goals in a three-game road trip last weekend, including a hat trick, leading to a 5-2 victory.
He now leads the RoughRiders with five goals this season.

Last season for Roosevelt, the forward led his team to the , serving as co-captain and scoring 44 goals along the way.
While playing for Cedar Rapids, Mayhew said he aims to help his new team be successful and to continue improving his personal skills.

His coach there, Mark Carlson, told The Gazette that Mayhew is a "gritty, rugged kid."
"If he’s willing to work hard, he’s got a chance to be a good player," Carlson told The Gazette.
