Patch Picks: 5 Wyandotte Parks

Wyandotte parks offer playgrounds, picnics, sports and scenic views.

Public parks are one of the best resources offered to residents of any community. It’s no secret that Wyandotte has some of the best parks Downriver. The city is home to many recreation areas of all sizes and interest levels.

Here are five Wyandotte parks that stand out from the rest:

The recreation opportunities at Bishop Park, which is 12.2 acres in size, are almost endless. Fishing, kayaking, basketball, playgrounds and picnicking are just a few choices for visitors. On select days during the summer, concerts are held inside the park. Also in the summer, boat tours depart from Bishop Park.

BASF Waterfront Park

At 20 acres, BASF Waterfront Park is the largest park in the city. Built on recovered land that was once chemically toxic, the park today offers visitors amazing views of the Detroit River from several lookout points. A brick promenade near the water and artistic sculptures are beautiful sites within the park. Volleyball players of all skill levels can try out the park’s sand courts. The park is located just south of Eureka on Biddle, next to golf course.

A wide variety of public athletic opportunities are available at Memorial Park. Visitors will find three baseball diamonds, a basketball court, a , a skate park and a youth soccer field. There also is a large playground for kids, covered picnic areas and public restrooms in the park. Aside from taking part in sports, park visitors also can take in a youth baseball or adult recreational softball game.

F.O.P Park

A large, shaded playground and picnic area make F.O.P. Park a popular family destination. Those wanting to cook up some burgers or hot dogs can do so on the park’s charcoal grill. The basketball court at the park is freshly painted and has new backboards and rims. A well-kept youth baseball field in back plays host to Wyandotte Little League teams. F.O.P Park is located at Bondie and Eighth Streets.

Exchange Park

Exchange Park is made up of a playground and picnic area, as well as a large, open space. On the playground, kids can ride the swings, the merry-go-round or play funnel ball. A picnic pavilion allows for parents to sit and watch their kids, or maybe get a picnic lunch ready. The large, open area allows for children to take part in outdoor group activities or games.
