Wyandotte Football Rolls Past Trenton to Remain Undefeated

A highly anticipated week three matchup between Wyandotte and Trenton was over at halftime, leading the Bears to a 46-8 victory. Hunter Matt helped lead the way with four rushing touchdowns.

In what was anticipated be a tough battle of two Downriver League heavyweights, Trenton was no match Friday night as rolled to a 46-8 win at home.

The Bears (3-0) dominated the Trojans in every aspect of the game as the team was playing without star senior running back Mike Czarnecki, out with a broken collarbone.

Scoring opened with a 29-yard pass from junior Kevin Matejko to junior Devan Stewart and the Bears went up 6-0, following a missed extra point.

The Trojans temporarily put up a fight until senior Hunter Matt hit pay dirt in the second quarter, scoring on a 55-yard run and making it 13-0.

“(The play) was to the right side," Matt said. "I took it out there and there was a lane. I saw my receiver blocking the safety and it was wide open.”

Later in the second quarter, senior Tyler Dunn picked off a pass at the Roosevelt 7-yard-line. Wyandotte took advantage and drove all the way down field, capping the drive with a 1-yard touchdown run by Matt.

In a flurry of scoring, the Bears closed out the half with 21 points in about two minutes.

Matt made it 27-0 with a 49-yard run at 1:58, then Matejko hit senior Edge Jelsemeno with a touchdown pass on the first play following a Trojan fumble on the ensuing kickoff.

With another chance on offense before the half ended, Matejko hit Stewart with a pass at the 1:10 mark. The athletic junior receiver went up high over Trenton defenders to come down with the ball and sent the Bears to the locker room up 40-0.

“We’ve been playing together since seventh grade,” Matjeko said of Stewart. “(He’s always) been like that.”

Matt capped an amazing night with one more touchdown in the third quarter, running one in from 35 yards out.

The Trojans did manage a fourth-quarter touchdown to spoil the shutout, but it was ultimately of little consequence as the Bears walked off with a 46-8 win and stay undefeated.

“We knew going into this game we that were going to be challenged and we were prepared for that," Coach Ron Adams said. “Our kids still wanted to come out here and play at a high level and we were able to get that done tonight.”

Scoring Leaders

Matt had four rushing touchdowns and 140 yards total on the ground. Stewart caught four passes for 81 yards and two touchdowns. Matejko was 6-7, throwing for 118 yards and three touchdowns.
