Wyandotte's Beautiful Homes, Businesses Awarded

The Wyandotte Beautification Commission gave out awards at Monday's City Council meeting.

The owners of Wyandotte's most beautiful homes and businesses were awarded Monday night for their efforts in sprucing up the city.

The Wyandotte Beautification Commission announced the recipients of its annual home and business awards at Monday's City Council meeting.

Winners received a certificate, a pot of flowers, a lawn sign and a window cling.

Local artist Karen Pettry designed the flower-themed lawn sign, which depicts a piece of artwork she entitled "Poppy."

Properties were judged on many criteria, including color, texture, creative design with attention to planning, variety, landscape and maintenance during the entire season.

Businesses honored this year were:

  • KSP Insurance Agency, 1420 Ford Ave.
  • St. Joseph Catholic Church, 334 Elm St.

Residents honored this year were:

  • Michael and Joanne DiMaggio, 402 Riverside Drive
  • Gary and Carol Humphrey, 607 Clinton
  • Edward and Donita Parritt, 2992 22nd St.
  • Michelle and Chris Pozdol, 2762 20th St.
  • Joe and Sharon Schichl, 163 Chestnut St.
  • Linda and Tom Simpson, 524 Forest St.
  • Michael and Linda Susko, 2392 20th St.

In addition to the seven residential winners, another five residents also were awarded. Commissioners declined to release their names or addresses, however, saying those people wanted to remain anonymous.
