Wyandotte Woman Heads Downriver Arts Council

Tammy Trudelle has taken on the role of executive director for the Downriver Council for the Arts.

Tammy Trudelle is excited about the future.

A lifelong Wyandotte resident, she has always loved her community. And now, her work keeps her even closer to home.

Trudelle was recently named executive director for the Downriver Council for the Arts.

The DCA is headquartered in the and serves 21 area communities. The mission of the group is to enrich the quality of life for Downriver residents by promoting and presenting art programs and experiences for adults and youth.

Prior to her new post, Trudelle served as program director for the .  Now she is happy to be working just five blocks away from her home where she lives with her husband, Jeremy.

“I am so excited about working for the community where I grew up,” she said. "It really is honor to be here. ... I have run into many people that I have known in the past in Wyandotte. It’s nice to work with so many people you already know.”

Trudelle, an alumna of , said she is very involved in vocal music and the arts.

“I love the arts and was always interested in drama and music in school,” she said. “I always knew I would have a career in the arts.”

After high school, she became a preschool teacher and later worked as the program director for the YWCA. Upon obtaining a business management degree, she went to work for the Plymouth Community Arts Council. 

While in Plymouth, she developed a solid reputation for programming art camps for youth.

“I believe my experience in Plymouth will help me with my work in programs here,”  she said.

Trudelle is wasting no time. She has already designed a series of summer camps for youth that will include a variety of art experiences. The day camps will be available  this summer in morning, afternoon and all-day sessions.

“Art camps have really become popular and it will be nice to make these programs available to the families in our area,” Trudelle said.

The Wyandotte Arts Center, which houses the DCA, also provides a wide array of art classes for adults and children, lectures, workshops, music events and theater performances.
