Six Flags Sells Valleyfair In Shakopee, 6 Other Amusement Parks

The parks are expected to stay open through 2026 with their regular schedules.

Six Flags announced Thursday that it's selling Valleyfair in Shakopee and six other amusement parks to EPR Properties for $331 million.

Valleyfair, Minnesota’s largest amusement park, features more than 75 rides and attractions, including eight roller coasters and a water park.

EPR Properties said the sale should not impact customers' experience visiting the parks. They said the parks will continue their regular operating schedules, and all season passes sold will be recognized through the 2026 season, including multi-park pass privileges at other parks within the Six Flags’ portfolio.

"Consistent with our strategy, this divestiture enables us to concentrate our capital, leadership and operational focus on the properties that we believe generate the strongest returns and offer the greatest long-term upside," Six Flags President and CEO John Reilly said. "Since joining the Company, I have been clear that Six Flags’ earnings power has been under-realized. This transaction will simplify our portfolio, strengthen our balance sheet and position us to execute with greater clarity and discipline."

Other parks included in the sale include Michigan's Adventure in Muskegon, Worlds of Fun in Kansas City, Mo., Schlitterbahn Waterpark Galveston in Texas, Six Flags St. Louis, Six Flags Great Escape in Queensbury, N.Y. and Six Flags La Ronde in Montreal, QC.

The parks combined had roughly 4.5 million visitors last year. They earned about $260 million in net revenue and $45 million in adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization, Six Flags said.

Sale proceeds after taxes and transaction expenses will be used to pay down debt, Six Flags said.

In 2024, Six Flags merged with Cedar Fair for $8 billion. The deal brought Valleyfair, Cedar Point and other amusement parks under the Six Flags portfolio.
