Dakota Communications Center to Test Emergency Notification System

Most Dakota County residents will receive a phone call from the Dakota Communications Center Tuesday starting at 6 p.m for an emergency test.

Residents throughout Dakota County can signup online to receive such notifications as a phone call, text message or email from the Dakota Communications Center (DCC)when emergencies happen, such as "floods, gas leaks, missing persons, critical police activity, and evacuation of buildings or neighborhoods."

"When we issue a message about a potential safety hazard or concern, messages will be sent to all standard voice and text communication devices that you have registered, including landline phones, cell phones, e-mail, and more," DCC's website said. "If you don't confirm receipt of the message, the system will try to reach your second contact number or email. The system will continue trying to contact you until it receives a confirmation from you."
