Last week I had the chance to interview Jeff Gillman and Meleah Maynard - authors of Decoding Gardening Advice; the Science Behind the 100 Most Common Recommendations.
There's a ton of gardening advice out there but figuring out what is truly a good gardening practice can be as difficult as dealing with clay soil.
Jeff and Meleah put 100 pieces of advice up against science and some of their findings are downright surprising- even to seasoned gardeners. Did you know you don't need to add rocks or sand to the bottom of a pot to improve drainage? You don't. Did you know you should buy smaller perennials (instead of bigger sizes)? You should. Did you know that most folks plant trees way too deep? They do - and these guys have proof. From soil amendments to landscape fabric, from pruning trees to watering lawns - these experts address it all.
