District 37B DFL Candidate Speaks Out in Favor of Bonding Bill Proposal

Minnesota continues to flounder on job creation. Governor Dayton has put forth a bonding bill proposal with broad implications. Not only does the bill support infrastructure monies but in addition provides incentives to employers. The sitting majority in the legislature continues to bias its approach to a single stratum of our economy, namely the faceless “job creators”.

The 2011 legislative session with a laser focus on jobs, jobs, jobs doesn’t seem to have been all that coherent as the term laser suggests. The budget solution was hardly that, a solution.

Here in Senate District 37B our Representative Kurt Bills saw our financial remedy in HF 1664 which put forward the usage of gold and silver specie to settle payment without a sales tax payment. Sensing that the Federal Reserve was prone to imminent collapse the bill suggests Minnesota start minting its own coinage. Can’t you just see yourself filling your gas tank in a neighboring state and attempting to pay with Minnesota gopher bills? Not too plausible. Fortunately the bill remains idle.

The 2012 session is the short session. Given the even tighter time constraint of the upcoming session is it really prudent for the majorities in the House and Senate to eat up the clock on wedge issues?

Will the marriage amendment produce jobs? Probably not.

Will a photo ID amendment produce jobs? Probably not.

Will a super majority for taxation amendment produce jobs? Probably not.

With 85% of Minnesota jobs being non-union will a right to work amendment produce jobs? Probably not.

Support for the middle class will help stabilize the Minnesota economy. The Governor’s bonding bill goes for a broad spectrum approach. This approach has historical proof to back it up as viable. The single stratum approach to coddle one stratum, the “job creator”, has a thirty year history of failing under its previous incarnation of “trickle down” economics.

Leave the emotion out it, forget about the non-job creating wedge issues and embrace the policy that has a provable history. Support the Governor’s version of the bonding bill. Take the broad spectrum view. We are in this together and government is the common tool we have to lift us up. That lift should not be narrowed in scope to a few would be saviors called “job creators”.
