The Christopher Goeke Leadership Foundation (CGLF), with sponsorship from the City of Apple Valley and Dahl Medical Supply, will be hosting its 3rd annual memorial event weekend beginning Saturday, May 4th and concluding Sunday, May 5th, 2013. The weekend events begin with the 3rd Annual Christopher Goeke Memorial Ultimate Frisbee Tournament at 8am on Saturday, May 4th at the Johnny Cake Ridge Park West fields in Apple Valley. The tournament continues through the Sunday at 5pm with an awards ceremony. Teams from local high schools will be competing.
“This will be the 3rd annual Christopher Goeke Memorial Tournament and it will be the best one yet. With more teams participating than previous years, we’re excited to join with local high schools to compete in a great sport commemorating a great man,” says Chris Miller, the Apple Valley High School Ultimate Frisbee Coach.
The Christopher Goeke Leadership Foundation was formed in memory of Christopher Goeke, a member of the Apple Valley community. On July 13th, 2010, while leading a platoon of the 4th Brigade of the 82nd Airbourne Division, First Lieutenant Christopher Goeke was killed responding to an attack in Kandahar City, Afghanistan. Chris graduated from Apple Valley High School in 2004 and furthered his education at the United States Military Academy at West Point, graduating sixth in his class. Chris was a leader not only in school, but also in his church and community. Founded in 2010, CGLF was established to promote the leadership qualities and values that Chris embodied by developing, encouraging and supporting young adults in pursuit of leadership excellence in mind, body and spirit throughout the Apple Valley community. CGLF is also dedicated to giving back to the community who helped Chris become the man he was.
