POLL: Vote for Rosemount Patch's Athlete of the Year

Who deserves to be recognized as Rosemount Patch's Athlete of the Year?

During the past week, readers have submitted names of folks they feel deserve the honor. We received two nominations, which you'll find in the attached poll. Below, you'll find answers to two questions about each nominee from those who nominated them. We did not change the answers at all. What was submitted to us is what you see.

You can vote once a day. We will accept votes until 9 p.m. Monday, Jan. 2.

Feel free to comment at the bottom about why you voted the way you did. Whomever receives the most votes is Rosemount Patch's Athlete of the Year and will have a story written about his or her efforts.

This story is one way to showcase the talents of a well-deserving Rosemount athlete. This person could be the star player or leader of the team, someone who puts in the most effort but doesn't necessarily get the notoriety or could be the "sixth man" of the team. Regardless of the reason, be sure to vote!

• Kevin Thompson:

Kevin is part of a team that has no home facility and didn't exist until this year. Plus, a week into the team's existence, they were ranked #14 in the country, and Kevin was named Player of the Week. Not a small feat.

I realize you are likely looking for a high school athlete, and that is fantastic. We here at DCTC would be thrilled to talk about our athletics a little more, though. We have six varsity sports and athletes from across the country playing here, and they get buzz. We'd love to have some of that conversation be local.

• Adam Jackson:

Adam was ranked #2 in the State at 152 pounds by the Guillotine (MN Amatuer Wrestling) for wrestling, and placed second in State last season for wrestling. He was recruited and will attend and wrestle after high school for the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs (Division 1 Athletics). Adam was voted MVP, Captain, Academic Achiever and Hardest Worker for wrestling. He received an All State and All Conference Award for wrestling, and was third in State for Free style wrestling. 

In addition, he has a 4.0 GPA and is ranked #1 in his class out of 567 this year. He was also a First Team Academic Award winner by the Guillotine. He is a member of the Student Council and National Honor Society. He made a mission trip through St. Joe's Catholic Church to Cortez, Colorado, and volunteers at the Lewis House for Children of Domestic Abuse in Eagan.
