Rosemount High School Football Coach To Run For Congress
A football coach from Rosemount High School has announced he will run to unseat Second District Republican Jason Lewis in the U.S. House.
ROSEMOUNT, MN — The football coach from Rosemount High School has announced he will run to unseat Second District Republican Jason Lewis in the U.S. House of Representatives. In a statement, Jeff Erdmann said the reason he is running for Congress "is because I believe a culture of success is built on respect." Erdmann added "America will only succeed when respect and value are placed on citizens who work hard and sacrifice every day for what they have. This needs to be brought back to the American political forefront."
In addition to coaching football, Erdmann also teaches social studies at Rosemount. He said in his 27 years of teaching American government, he's learned that "whether we’re Democrat or Republican, there is more that unites us than divides us":
When I came to Rosemount High and became the head coach of the football program, we barely had enough kids to field a team. I knew if we wanted our team to be successful, we needed to build a culture of respect. Because that is what actual winning looks like – respecting others and creating a culture where everyone is valued.
Erdmann told the Star Tribune he is seeking the DFL endorsement in 2018. In 2016, Lewis defeated Democrat Angie Craig to replace outgoing Republican Rep. John Kline.
