Rosemount PD Goes on Winter Parking Blitz — Issues 18 Tickets

The issued 18 tickets to 18 people over the weekend for violating the city's seasonal parking ordinance; the tickets were filed on Dec. 5 with the Rosemount City Attorney's Office.

"That's probably average for what we do. We'd like to have zero," Rosemount Police Chief Gary Kalstabakken said. "The bigger [the snow] storm, the better it tends to be."

According to Kalstabakken, the citations weren't for one specific area in the city; "it was fairly scattered throughtout the community."

Beginning Nov. 1 and continuing through March 31, the city no longer allows anyone to park vehicles overnight on city streets from 2 a.m. until 6 a.m, regardless of the weather, according to the city's website. 

Kalstabakken said someone who violates that portion of ordinance is subject to a $37 fine.

According to Rosemount City Code, drivers are prohibited to park on "any city street, highway or alley any time snowfall, wind, or other weather condition has resulted in a snow accumulation of two or more inches, until the street, highway, or alley is plowed curb to curb." 

A driver that does not obey this is subject to a $27 fine.

The city has these restrictions in place for snow plows to manuever through and clear snow off of city streets.

"I think every city has snow parking regulations, [and] I think everyone knows that," Kalstabakken said. "If it snows, don't park on the street."
